PANCHKARMA

 

Poorvakarma -(Pre-treatment procedures)

Snehan- Includes internal oleation done by the intake of medicated ghrithams (purified butter) and external oleation done by different kinds of massages.

Swedan - Sweda otherwise called as sudation therapy is done by using special herbs specific to the ailments of a person. It opens the pores and flushes and cleanses the system through the skin.

 

Pradhaankarma - (treatment procedures)

Vamana Karma (Vomiting) - It is a process of inducing vomiting to eliminate the kapha dosha. It is used for Kapha disorders like Bronchitis, Cold, Cough, Asthma, Sinus, & Excess mucus. One to three days prior to Vamana Karma, the persons body should be oleated both internally (intake of medicated ghee) and externally (abhyanga).

Virechana Karma (Therapeutic Purgation) - It is a process of inducing loose stools, used for pitta disorders like Skin diseases, Acidity, Heart burn, Peptic ulcer, Jaundice, Intestinal parasites. Virechana is induced by administering herbal purgatives given orally which passes through whole gut and eliminate excessive pitta.

Basti Karma(Enema) - In this process medicated oil or decoction is administered through the anus to pacify the aggravated vata dosha. Basti Karma is one of the important procedures of Panchakarma and is used to treat vata disorders like cervical spondylitis, lumbar spondylitis, paralysis, hairfall, Chronic Constipation, bloated stomach, malnourished people, sexual disorders, constipation. The procedure emphasizes on loosened Vata dosha removal out of the body through the rectum.

Raktamokshana - It is procedure to cleanse the blood and is advised only in very rare conditions. It is not advisable during general Panchkarma.

Nasya - Nasya involves administration of medicated oil through the nose to cleanse accumulated Kapha toxins from the head and neck region. It is also done to nourish the brain.

 

Pashchaat Karma - (post treatment procedures)

Sansarjan Krama - During the panchkarma digestive fire is subsided and the body becomes weak. Paschatkarma is administering required food for the body after the purification of the body, to intensify the agni (digestive fire). Dietary regimens restricted bodily exertion and the intake of herbs believed to promote health come under the Paschat Karma (post-treatment). During the treatments, food is given according to the degree of purification intended for the body.

Until and Unless the disease is cured completely by removing the toxins from the body it reoccurs again and again in the body, just like a tree can`t be destroyed completely until its roots are destroyed completely.

In addition, Panchkarma cleanses off your body of toxins, improves digestive fire and provides you with glowing skin and shining hair. It brings about weight loss in a very heakthy manner.

 

Other Therapies

 

Shiroabhangam-

A relaxing head massage using the oils that suits your body type. It helps to improve your hair texture, reduces stress, improves sleep pattern and energises your mind.

 

Paadabhayangam-

A relaxing massage for your aching feet that completely relieves the pain and stress of your feet and calf muscles.

 

Dehabhyangam-

Distant travelling and long hours sitting routines adds to physical stress, and what could be less than bliss if one can take a body massage at weekend. Warm medicated oils are poured onto the body by the trained therapist and massage is done to relieve the deep seated tensions. It provides glowing skin, longevity, and ward off any joint pains and makes you feel healthy and happy.

 

Swedanam:

A full body steam gives wonderful results. It improves your blood circulation, opens up the pores and removes the toxins from the skin. It helps to reduce weight, improves skin texture and relieves pain.

Ubtan (Body scrub)

With the dust all around, our skin gets dull and listless. A body scrub removes the accumulated dirt and the dead skin, making the pores to open and giving youth to the skin.

 

Udvartanam:

It is a kind of dry powder massage. The powder is prepared by roots of medicinal plants. This massage firms up the sagging body parts, brings inch loss and weight loss.

Patra pind swed (Elakizhi)

Popularly known as Bundle massage this is a treatment where fresh leaves of herbs are fried with other herbal ingredients, tied into boluses, dipped into warm medicated oil and applied all over the body for specific time.

This relieves chronic back pain joint stiffness and swelling, muscular pain, sciatica, spondylosis, sprain, cramps. It is also anti-aging and rejuvenating.

 

Shashtik shali Pind Swed (Navrakizhi)-

Also known as Rice Massage. This is a cooling treatment. A Highly effective rejuvenation technique using a special type of rice that is cooked tied into boluses and dipped into a mixture of herbal decoction and warm milk, then skillfully massaged all over the body for one hour after the Abhyanga. It is beneficial in muscle wasting, paralysis, loss of function in any of the limb.

Mukhabhayangam

Keeps away wrinkles, relaxes the face muscles and stimulates the micro-circulation of the blood in the face. The massage gives the skin a smooth texture and improves muscle tone.

 

Keshlepam(Hair Pack):

Application of herbal paste with specific liquid bases over the head. It reduces Hair fall and greying of hair and improves hair texture.

Sarwaangdhara (Pizhichil)

A classical ayurvedic procedure in which mild body massage is followed by pouring of warm, medicated oil all over the body with simultaneous movements of hands to relax entire musculature of the body.

Helpful in curing Musculoskeletol disorders, Paralysis / Stroke, Parkinson`s Disease, Polyarthralgia, Swelling, debility.
